No 16 South Green
 
 

This was the 'holiday home' of Caroline Acton, a well known and much loved benefactor of the town. At her funeral in 1838, all the businesses of Southwold closed their doors as a mark of respect. Her memory is preserved in the name 'Acton Lodge' at No 18 South Green, next door.

Southwold Constitutional Club is described in a 1905 tourist guide as "recently established ... affording to members a reading room, billiard room, card room, the use of a telephone in connection with the Post Office trunk system, and the usual advantages of a social club. Visitors properly introduced can become temporary members at the modest subscription of 3s 6d per week or 10s 6d for the season of three months."

Destroyed by enemy action at 9.45 am on 8th November. The Club Steward, Mr Maltby, was trapped and rescued by Mr C N Field and Mr A Runnacles who each received British Empire Medals as a consequence. (Source: Barrett Jenkins' 'Reminiscences of Southwold through two World Wars'.
